Hi, my name is Kate Petty and today I am going to show you how to embed images, and documents,
and video into Haiku. You've probably seen images like this one
where you've got a website where the video is on the screen; there isn't a link to click
where you have to go to another site. You might have even seen a website like this
where you have the document embedded right into it without, again, a link you would have
to go outside of the website to see. Today I am going to show you how to find the
code and put the code in so you can embed these right into your website.
The first thing we're going to look at is Google Documents and we'll find the embed
code for this particular worksheet. This assignment is the one I want to be able
to put onto my website. So the first thing we're going to do is go
to the SHARE button to change the settings on the link. Right now the link is only private
to me, I need to change that to make it public on the web. Anyone who wants to see this can
VIEW the document. The next thing I need to do is PUBLISH THE
DOCUMENT TO THE WEB. I'm not really sure what this does, I think it allows the document
to appear in Google searches. You want to start publishing and you can't
get the embed code without publishing. When you start publishing, you'll get two
links: 1) A document link
2) An embed code. When you click, copy, and paste the embed
code you can put it on Haiku. You'll want to put it on Haiku so your students
can see what it looks like. Now that we have it copied, we'll pull up
Haiku and open a content box. One of the options here is "Embed the Web"
I'm going to click embed the web, remember I have that embed code saved so I'm just going
to paste it in the box where it tells me to and I'm going to click "Next"
Of course Haiku will ask for a title, I'm just going to call this TEST
and we'll just put ABC here and click SAVE
There's my document! It is completely embedded in the site where my students can see it in
Haiku rather than having to go outside of Haiku.
So that's how you do a document. We'll go over it one more time,
Again, you'll go to file. You'll PUBLISH TO THE WEB
Copy the embed code Go to Haiku, open a content box and click
"Embed the Web"
What about video? How do you embed YouTube right on Haiku rather
than just getting the link like Haiku normally does.
So I am going to go to YouTube and get a video. This one happens to be one I recorded a while
ago. Underneath, the video is this button right
here called SHARE Click it and you'll get the short link to
the video Right next to SHARE THIS VIDEO is a hidden
button called EMBED. Click it and there's my embed code
I am going to copy it and I'm going to go back to my Haiku site
I am going to add a content box I am going to click EMBED THE WEB
I am going to paste the embed code right in there
Again, we'll title this with TEST 2 and put in ABC there.
Save it, And there is my YouTube video right in the
site so my students don't have to go out of the site to view it.
Those are the two ways to embed video and documents into a Haiku site.
I hope this helps.
