I'm a current student studying at RMIT .
Last year, I began thinking about the ways I could get involved and how that might
improve my chances of getting a job after I graduate.
I didn't really have that much I could put on my resume to show what I had achieved
at uni, apart from my marks.
Then I found out about Mates at RMIT. Mates is a program that helps new students
get settled in and ready to study. I thought, I can do that.
But I also thought, this is an opportunity for me to get some valuable training in
leadership, communication, and make a difference to another student's uni life.
As a mentor, I showed new students around RMIT and Melbourne, connecting them
with information and services. This really helped with their studies, and they got to
meet a lot of other students, while taking part in fun activities that I got to organize.
It was fun and rewarding. What's more, as the weeks passed the students I
mentored started to feel more comfortable: They got to know heaps of people and
their confidence living in a new city also grew
I am really proud of what I achieved. I earned a LEAD certificate and got recognition
for volunteering in my academic transcript - something I know future employers will
like
So if you want to get skills and experience outside of the classroom...
Join Mates and grow your potential with RMIT.
