North Korea will hold the first session of its new legislature next month, the first
since North Korean leader Kim Jong-un assumed power in 2011.
The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Thursday that the inaugural
session of the 13th Supreme People's Assembly is slated for April 9th in Pyongyang.
They are expected to discuss matters related to helping Kim consolidate his power base
after the recent purge of close aides, including Jang Song-thaek, once the second most powerful
man in the secluded state. Earlier this month, 6-hundred-87 new deputies
were elected to the North's rubber-stamp legislature, including leader Kim Jong-un, who was elected
unanimously.
