And now it's time for our daily arts and culture segment with Michelle Kim.
Let's see what arts and culture news she has for us today.
Hello Michelle
Hello Conn-young
So what do you have for us today?
I'm very excited to tell you about a photo exhibition I went to yesterday.
It's a series of photographs documenting all the things that happened in 2012 with some
of the best in (Korean?) photojournalism... and I have a short preview for you now. Check
it out.
These days, we have more information than ever.
As we rush from place to place and scroll through the text on a smartphone, and we can't
always read the vast amount of news coming over the internet,... so we get a lot of our
news from photos.
These images can tell a complicated story quickly and sometimes all it takes is just
a glance.
Through them, we learn about humanity's successes, and its failures, we empathize with the survivors
of natural disasters, and those who were lost,... we get glimpses of other worlds,.. and become
inspired.
"Documenting Humans, Recording Time" at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts presents
a series of photographs from 2012, giving viewers a chance to reflect on the major events
of the year.
The images show nature in all its glory, capture moments of victory in sport and politics,
show the devastating result of natural disasters, and the beautiful, and at times, harsh realities
of the world we live in.
The museum's curator, Kim So-hee, gave Arirang TV a preview of the exhibition.
"We start off with all the previous winners of Korea's Press Photo Exhibition, and then
we move on to four different sections, starting with News in Photos, Human Document, Art in
Life, and Live with Nature.
As a special addition, we also have a display of photos from the 18th presidential election."
The exhibition also gives viewers a chance to see some of the photos from the perspectives
of the photojournalists who make them.
We see the dangerous situations that some of the photographers work in... as well as
snapshots of the hilarious moments that can come when you're documenting the unpredictable.
The exhibition also showcases all of the winning photos from Korea's Press Photo Exhibition
since its inception in 1964.
The photographs will be on view at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts until April
9th.
