Archie: Hi my name is Archie. Natalie: I’m Natalie and we both study Media
at York St John University. Archie: The course basically isn’t just
to do with Media Studies in terms of film and TV but also to do with culture and society
and how people interact with each other and are influenced by each other and their surroundings.
Natalie: We touch on a lot of different subjects like we have modules on globalisation and
enterprise ones which are quite business quite a variety of things so there is something
for everybody. Work experience is out there if you look for it basically. The beauty of
being at quite a small institute is the fact that the lecturers from day one know your
name they get to know you on a personal level as well they know your interests and things
like that and they really are they are open to like helping you with literally anything.
Archie: For me personally my favourite aspect of the course is the variety there is something
for everyone in the course from visual culture to issues of taste to media geography to cyber
culture. Natalie: One of my favourite aspects of the
course is the different types of assessments that we are asked to do there is straight
forward question and answer and kind of assignments but there is portfolios, research files, presentations
in groups individually and it mixes it up a little bit. The advice that I would give
to people who would want to study our course would be to take a good look at the modules
to make sure that you come into it open minded a lot of its lectures are about debate and
discussion and listening to other people’s opinions and taking it in to consideration.
Archie: If you are interested in the media more specifically the theory of media this
is one of the best courses I looked at. Natalie: I chose York St John because… because
of the city it’s a beautiful place it’s a nice setting and backdrop to your education.
Archie: For me personally it was also the size of the uni. I thought there would be
more personal interaction with other students and the tutors and on top of doing my BA here
I’m also staying for another year to do my masters course which will include working
close with the lecturers.
