I love synchronized swimming because it’s a mixture of gymnastics and ballet.
You need the grace of a dancer, but the strength of a gymnast.
I love being artistic in the water, especially doing my solos.
You need to be very strong and come out of the water very powerfully.
I’ve been working with Clare McGovern since she basically started in the sport.
She is swimming in all disciplines: solo, duet and team.
Trust is a huge aspect of synchronized swimming.
It’s really important to trust your teammates or you’re never going to get that perfect swim.
She is an amazing athlete who is a leader amongst her peers.
You’re not just swimming alone.
You’re swimming in a team in the Pan Am Games so you want to make sure you’re totally in synch with your teammates.
She is an extremely positive individual who sets very high goals for herself and she is a true role model for young girls in Toronto, in Ontario and in Canada.
I love competing for Canada, especially when you get that track uniform and you put on that jacket.
You feel invincible.
It’s a really big feeling and I think it really motivates you to push yourself even harder because you know that you’re representing your country on your back.
The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games are very exciting.
I think the home-crowd advantage will be fantastic and make all of the Canadian athletes push each other.
I was at the Pan Am Games in 1999 in Winnipeg.
It was a home crowd.
We won two gold medals and we’ll be looking to do the same thing in Toronto and it will be even more spectacular being in your own home city.
I think it’s going to be a wonderful event for Toronto.
The whole city will give us a really good edge up on all the competition and the competitors coming to compete at these Games.
The potential for growth in all of the aquatic sports is huge as a result of the facility legacy that will be left.
The opportunity for young children to see the best in the world come here to Toronto and compete is going to inspire a whole new generation of athletes.
I’m so excited to compete there. Hopefully I get that spot on the team.
I’m really striving for it.
It’s the goal that I think all Canadians have when they are going to step in that pool and swim.
I can’t wait.
