Hi, I'm Tracey with Leader Motorcyle, a family-owned and biker-owned motorcycle accessories manufacturer.
How do you know which GPS mount will work best for you? That's what I'd like to address
in this video.
First, you'll need to decide where you want to mount your GPS. We have mounts for round
bars (which are probably the most common), for the brake or clutch on Harleys and Goldwings,
mounts that attach to windshields - even mounts that are specific to the Can-Am Spyder and
BMW.
Next, you'll need to 'pick your gripper' as we say. The eCaddy line of GPS mounts encompasses
four distinct 'grippers,' and all of them are available for all the base mounting options
I just mentioned. Which one is best for you depends on your GPS - and your priorities.
Here's an overview of the eCaddy GPS mount options:
• The eCaddy Diamond is the most secure and in my opinion, the most aesthetically
pleasing • The eCaddy Ball takes advantage of a feature
that is already built in to many GPS models • The eCaddy Deluxe Universal is the most
flexible GPS mount • If waterproofing is important to you,
you'll want to check out the eCaddy Deluxe with waterproof case
The eCaddy Diamond is, in my opinion, the most aesthetically pleasing mount for GPS.
It consists of a form-fitted cradle specific to your GPS model, a diamond backing plate,
and the Ultra-Swivel.
The Ultra-Swivel allows you to adjust up-and-down or left-and-right tilt, and you can also pick
any angle from zero to 360 degrees by adjusting where the Ultra-Swivel sits at the plate.
It also means you can use the phone either horizontally OR vertically.
The only caveat? Not all models of GPS have a cradle available for them. Check out web
site for current fitments.
The eCaddy Ball mount is the simplest, cleanest GPS mount we make. It works with any GPS that
has a 17mm ball "receiver." Usually this "receiver" is a plate that was included in your GPS kit
(which looks like this). That size is common to Garmin Nuvi and Magellan GPS models (TomTom
uses a different size so will not work with this kit).
The GPS just snaps directly onto the ball mount and rotates/tilts just as it does in
your car!
There's one caveat. The back plate is made of a plastic material and we can't control
the quality of that piece like we can our parts. We don't recommend the eCaddy Ball
for motorcycles with a lot of vibration, and we suggest that you glue that backing plate
onto your GPS for extra support.
The eCaddy Deluxe is about as universal as it's possible to get when you talk about mounting
GPS. It does require that your GPS have the 4-hole AMPS pattern on its backside. Or sometimes
you can find a cradle with that
Is protecting your GPS from rain important to you?
We offer a few options for waterproofing your GPS, such as this zipper-lock case. With this
case you can operate most touch screens, and there's a port to run wires out of it. In
our own riding tests, the only time we got water inside was when we didn't zip it completely
The back of the waterproof case marries up to our eCaddy Deluxe plate with the patented
slot-and-lug design so that you can mount the GPS vertically or horizontally (say, if
you are mounting on ape hanger bars). You can choose to add the UltraTilt to give you
nearly unlimited angle-ability.
All the GPS mounts I've discussed here today also have the UltraSecurity and Get the Vibe
Out features.
Our products are not cheap. We machine, polish, and chrome plate our mounts here in the USA.
It is important to us that we support the people that made America great -- and that
means paying them fairly, because they deserve it for the quality work they do.
To get a cheaper product, we'd have to move production to China (and many of our competitors
are doing just that). We've seen what happens then: quality issues. Crappy chrome. You know
what I mean.
We're a family owned business, and I'm a military veteran as well. A lot of bikers drive around
with american flags on their bikes and attend events honoring our military, but they buy
parts made in China because they are cheaper.
So yes, the eCaddy might be a little more expensive than others, but hey - you paid
a lot for the bike, why not spend a little more to do it right? And more to the point,
you'll still be using the eCaddy years from now (instead of just a season or two)!
