I grew up outside of the suburbs of Syracuse in a town called Camillus, and I attended RIT
in 19, 1990 till 1994 in the Photo Illustration Program which was what they called it then.
I think it was just something i wanted to do even as a kid. I remember getting this
Yogi Bear 126 camera. I didn't really like math, I liked art. My mom had an art gallery
so I was always kinda inspired by artistic things. So I was really encouraged by them
to pursue this. I think, it was uh the professors are really caring, a lot of them invited us
to their homes, we would hang out, we would become great friends, I still keep in touch
with them, still today. I think that's kinda like the "RIT difference" if you will, just
the faculty and staff were really caring and very supportive. I was there at CNN for seven
years, building photo galleries, editing the pictures. You know, pictures became very important
there, we started the blog because people, our users were hungry for images people would
consume these images like crazy. You know, I partnered with a writer at CNN and we really
had a great time, just traveling the south and telling everyday stories, and using this
huge platform to get peoples stories out. I mean, I always think it's important for
people to take control of their own careers, so if you run into a place where you're, you've
hit some road blocks and you've kinda gone as far as you can go, it was a great opportunity
at the Weather Channel, to do something totally different, and I just, I just took it. You
know, I started as a photographer, I, you know when I left RIT I didn't work in photography,
I watched a lot of my friends work into photography, I worked, actually worked in a factory for
years, but even there I found my, I was working on producing training materials, I tried to
do something I tried to do my own personal work. Just be open to the various adventures,
I mean you're gonna, I think, looking back at my career I'm looking at the different
things that I did, and, really, you know, you start your education also in your career,
you begin it at RIT, but you really continue to get educated, in your field on your career
so whatever you're doing, you may feel like you're not doing what you wanted to do but
you know, if you preserver, if you stay with it, you'll get there, you'll get there.
