Hi, we’re on eeepc.it
I just received the Nexus7,
...I’m opening the pack
.. and here it is.
The packaging is grey, heavy,
it’s just arrived from the US,
it will be available in Italy from September.
This model is the one with 8 Gb,
sold on Google Play.
I pop the cover off,
this is the other packaging, black,
surely you’ve already seen that in other unbox videos.
The box is a bit matte.
I’ve just seen that this box is a bit hard to open,
so with this knife I remove immediately these side parts,
I turn it upside down...
here it is.
The Nexus7
...it’s very light.
Let’s see what else we get...
a black smaller box
just like the ZenBook or the Transformer series.
Inside we find the warranty info,
quick start guide,
the micro USB-USB cable for charging,
and here it is, the charger...
it’s very small,
it looks like the one of EeePC X101,
black matte plastic, scratch-resistant
with the Asus logo.
Nothing else in the box, that’s all.
I take the Tablet,
take off the plastic...
... the first impression is good,
I just feel the plastic is well-made, matte
this Nexus7 is very light, just 340 grams,
I think it’s the lightest Tablet I’ve ever tried,
among the 7-inch ones.
These finishes remind me the Acer Iconia Tab,
this is the Nexus logo,
there is this little glossed frame...
it looks like aluminum,
yes, it’s definitely aluminum,
that gives a good contrast,
then there’s the 7-inch screen,
resolution 1280x800 pixel, above average,
which is flush with the edge,
no steps,
there’s nothing between the screen and the back.
Front-cam, indeed the only cam...
there’s nothing on the rear.
On the side we find some small contacts,
we don’t know what are they for,
Asus and Google didn’t say anything yet.
This is one of the two microphones,
the other one should be on the front...
... here it is.
On the lower edge we find
the MicroUSB port and the headphone jack.
Down here, the only loudspeaker, large,
with the embossed Asus logo,
the volume rocker and the start button.
So, let’s push it and see the first start.
Ok, this is the start screen,
I set Italian as language...
welcome, go ahead...
here I set Wireless on and password...
ok, connecting...
here, no, I skip that,
I’ll do it then.
“ Google apps”
“Setup complete”
Well, now I want to set the brightness,
I change from auto to maximum...
that’s it.
The display is IPS,so it should have wide viewing angles... . 78 00:04:20,016 --> 00:04:23,283 ... exactly.
Well, I’m near a window, so there are some reflexes.
I can assure you it’s very light,
it’s the lightest Tablet I tried lately.
Maybe, I would expect a better brightness,
but the contrast is great,
due to the resolution too, 1280x800 pixel,
the icons show a good quality.
Let’s run a test with Chrome,
this is Eeepc.it,
really smooth...
I assure that the quality is high in color reproduction,
the display is vivid, with bright colors...
really good...
I click on an article..
The processor is Quad Core,
even if slightly less powerful than the Prime,
it’s the same of the Transformer TF300,
a good processor anyway.
Meanwhile I open another tab...
let’s go on Netbooknews.it,
it’s loading...
...ok, done.
All the rendering problems
of the previous Android versions are gone
...this is the app list
...pinch-to-zoom really great.
Another Home Page...
this is the site of La Repubblica,
maybe it’s heavier than the other two...
I want to try "desktop" mode.
Jelly Bean is much more responsive,
much more smooth...
it’s not just an impression, it’s a technical issue...
the frame rate it’s all different,
it’s already available on some Smartphones...
Jelly Bean is really much more fluid
than the previous Ice Cream Sandwich Android.
Let’s go on YouTube...
this is a new app...
ok, let’s watch a video
so we can also try the volume that is…
…sorry, ok, it’s here.
The sound is really good,
and the volume is high
even if we cover the loudspeaker with the hand...
Video resolution good...
the full-screen mode is actually very nice.
Well, we could try the new research mode by Google,
where you can just talk:
"Eeepc.it”
“Netbooknews.it” …
The graphic interface is a little bit different
from the previous one,
more similar to Smartphone’s interface.
Here we have the directories,
just like the previous models,
let’s go on Google Earth...
find Rome...
it's still loading...
I’d like to show you Google Maps too,
because here we have a new feature,
here... “offline mode”,
so you can use Google Maps even without the WI-FI connection
by saving your maps locally.
Remind that this model is available only in the WI-FI version,
the 3G version of the Google Nexus7 doesn’t exist.
Then... here on the left side we find a magnetic sensor
this is a magnet,
let’s see if it works...
here, exactly here...
so it means that soon we’ll have cases
just like those of the iPad or other Asus devices,
made with a magnetic sensor
which serves to switch on or off the screen of the Tablet
just by opening or closing the cover.
Well, for sure I’ll have to run some tests on almost everything...
I just want to assure you that the construction quality is really good,
this Tablet is very light...
I can’t stop saying that!
By the way, a couple of system updates have been just released,
this is the notification...
here it is, system update available 4.1.1 …
I’ll do it later.
I’ll have to test the battery life too,
if I’m not mistaken the battery is 4325 mAh...
so it should last for about 8 hours...
I’ll have to test the front-cam too...
we could do that right now if I find the icon...
nope, no icon...
maybe because it was useless, since there’s no back-cam.
Now... I want you to see that...
here it is, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
And that’s all,
I suggest you to subscribe on this YouTube channel,
follow us on Eeepc.it
to watch the complete review coming in the next days,
so you could ask me any question or ask for particular tests.
