Hello. My name is Mark Blocker for expert village. This segment will cover what are
fuses? A fuse is basically a safety circuit for an electronic circuit in an automobile
,or home systems, or computers. They are used all over in the industry. And basically what
it is power comes in on one terminal travels through a small filiment and its available
for a load circuit on the other terminal. That filament that it travels through is designed
to handle a certain amount of amperage and if that amperage is exceeded the filament
burns or pops. So anything that could cause this amperage to be exceeded like a short,
or a defective motor or some other type of problem that would cause this fuse to blow.
Thus opening the circuit and preventing power from being shorted directly to ground. Anytime
you short power to ground you create large amounts of heat and this is a potential for
electrical fire and potential damage to vehicle. So a fuse system protects the wiring and other
components from potential damage due to a short or malfunction. So if you have a circuit
that goes bad ,chances are the fuses are the first thing to check. And if you have a blown
fuse that kind of indicates there's a problem on that circuit and you might need to do some
more determination as to what caused the fuse.
