Hi, my name's Lee Perkins. I'm a physical therapist and founder of HandsOnRemedy.com.
Today I'm going to talk about Palmar Fibromatosis and why you should consider physical therapy
as your first option in the healing process. Palmar Fibromatosis, also known as Dupuytren's
Disease, occurs when the tissue of the palm contracts and tightens up. This tissue limitation
makes it difficult if not impossible to completely open your hand. This usually starts with one
finger but ultimately involves multiple fingers. This lack of flexibility can make it really
difficult to grip, twist and functionally use your hand. Palmar Fibromatosis may not
be very painful but this functional limitation can make it challenging to perform even the
most basic activities during your day; like getting dressed in the morning, typing or
twisting the lid off a jar. With early Physical Therapy treatment, you
can maximize your function quickly and cost effectively. On the first visit, your Physical
Therapist will perform differential diagnostic testing to determine your exact condition.
You should then expect a hands-on treatment incorporating specialized techniques to help
get the results you need. Your therapist will also provide a home exercise program specific
to your injury and the training to perform those exercises correctly. Our goal as therapists
is the same as yours; heal quickly and heal permanently. The information you see on our
website and this video should NOT be used to determine your own condition. You should
seek medical advice from a qualified professional first. Find your Physical Therapist now at
HandsOnRemedy.com, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
