Your achievements in the realms of academics, leadership, community service, character,
and athletics are being honored here today and by your participation and impact in athletics
and induction for both Kate and Josh into our Athletics Hall of Fame.
In conclusion I congratulate each of you for your
individual and collective achievements. I particularly want to recognize the programs
that will be raising championship banners today
in baseball, football, men's and women's lacrosse and softball.
And for Kate Healey and Josh Oxton, for their contributions to the women's soccer
and men's basketball programs and induction into the Endicott Hall of Fame.
Thank you. There has never been a day in my 25 years
at Endicott College that I could not say
that the athletes at Endicott College are the best I have ever seen,
the best that I have enjoyed as individuals and teams
It is an honor to have you here today and it is an honor to recognize you as teams
and as athletes, it is an honor to recognize the parents who
invested time and energy into your success both academically and and
as an athlete Thank you very much for being with us.
Kate Healey, Class of 2004... Quietly found ways to make things happen.
On the field for the Gulls wearing soccer's most glorified #10,
Kate was named to the CCC All-Conference Team, the Adidas Classic All-Tournament Team,
and captained her squad. Kate Healey was a model of consistency and
leadership during her time on the Endicott women's soccer
team. Healey patrolled the midfield scoring 21 goals
for the Gulls and adding 14 assists to 56 points.
According to former coach Gentile, "Her greatest soccer moment happened in 2001
when she scored two goals to help lead the team to the first ever CCC
Championship for the soccer program and before any other program had done.
More than statistics can ever show, Kate was part of four teams that
made Endicott history and the legacy she has created with her teammates
continues to shine on campus today." Another act of her and her team's selflessness
was the donation of the flag pole that dons the stadium today.
During her career, her team amassed a record of 59-22-4
which is a winning percentage of 73 percent. I want to congratulate and recognize Kate
Healey to the Endicott College Athletic Hall of Fame.
In my four years of playing soccer at Endicott are years I will never forget.
The memories our teams made, the team bonding and building we did on and
off the field, the van trips to games,
the sugar highs before games moving from the grass to the new soccer turf
stadium, winning two conference titles,
playing in the NCAA Tournament are all memories that will last a lifetime.
These memories will always be in the past but the friends I made through
my coach and my teammates will always last a lifetime.
Josh Oxton led the Endicott men's basketball team to two
Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships and along the way became our all-time leader
in career assists. He is arguably the toughest point guard in
the history of the basketball program and Dr. Nastasi takes it one step further
by saying, "He might be the best basketball player to
ever wear the Endicott Blue and Green." Opposing teams feared him.
His ability to change the tempo and momentum of the game was unmatched by any other basketball
player Former head coach Mike Polanski said,
"Josh earned the respect from the team for the hours he put in outside of practice,
and the influence he had over our players and ultimately our coaching staff.
Josh created our team's identity over his time here."
Oxton who also scored over 1,000 points had already broken the assists record
by the end of his junior season and completed his career with 434 assists.
In 2002-03, he set Endicott records for assists in a season,
steals in a game and free throw percentage. In Josh's senior year, he was named to the
All-CCC First Team. It is my privilege and honor to recognize
Josh Oxton into the Endicott Hall of Fame. Thank you to my family, thank you to my teammates,
thank you to Mike Polanski he was incredible to me
The fans of Endicott, they were amazing. Thank you very much.
