A RAM disk is a virtual hard drive stored in your computer’s DRAM memory.
Creating a RAM disk requires dedicated software and utilizes a portion of your system’s available memory.
First, you’ll want to determine how big your RAM disk should be;
a general rule of thumb is to keep it below 50 percent of your system’s total memory.
The RAM you use for your RAM disk is unavailable for general memory tasks.
So don’t slow down your rig — make sure you have enough memory to begin with.
We suggest at least 16 to 32 gigs. And to ensure it’s reliable, make sure it’s HyperX memory.
How much of a difference can a RAM disk make in your system’s performance?
A lot, compared to traditional hard drives. Let’s put them both to the test.

As you can see, we are moving data much faster with the RAM disk as compared to the hard drive.
RAM disks are great for handling smaller data set operations, such as photographs, audio clips, short videos and loading game maps.
That makes them perfect for gamers and content creators,
but keep in mind that RAM is volatile so you lose your data every time the system is powered off.
