Hello again. In this video we'll take a look at how to use the motion tracking tool in
Adobe Premiere Elements. I'm working in version 10 at the moment and this tool may be available
in other versions as well. So I've opened a video. Moved it to the timeline. And now
what I want to do is add a speech bubble that moves along with the cat as it walks across
the screen. The first thing I need to do is make sure that the clip is selected by clicking
on it. Then right above the timeline I will select the motion tracking mode. The button
right here. Once I click that I'll be prompted to run the auto analyzer. This is a good thing
to run if there's just simple motion in the video, which there is in this case. If it's
a very complicated video this could be a little more challenging to use as you'll see in a
moment why. But since it's a very simple video I'll go ahead and say yes. Let it auto analyze.
This takes a moment to analyze this short clip. What it's doing is analyzing the motion.
You know what is moving in this video. So as I scroll the current time indicator through
you see the yellow box and it follows the cat. And I'm going to attach a piece of clip
art to that so that it moves along with the cat. Now as I mentioned a moment ago auto
analyzer could be a problem if the video is very complicated. Imagine if there are many
things moving in the video we would have yellow boxes all over. And in that case we would
use the add object button. Attach the object to whatever we want it to track and then track
object that way. And it would create the same yellow box for us. So that's two ways to go.
But if it's a simple video auto analyze will take care of that for you. So we have a couple
of boxes going on there. That's all right. We just need to pick which one to attach a
piece of clip art to. So what I'm going to do is move this here where I see the yellow
box appear. Now I'm going up to the project tab then over to edit. Select edit. Now I
will look for clip art. I've selected clip art. There's quite a few little pieces of
clip art that come with Adobe Premiere Elements. What I want today is a speech bubble. So here
we have thought and speech bubbles. I'll click that. And now I'm going to add a thought bubble
I think to this cat. I'll drag this over onto the video and you see how the yellow box turns
blue. That's a good sign. I'll drop that speech bubble right there. Now I can add text. I
think I'll just type meow. Click okay and then I can reposition this a little bit. I
will click the motion tracking mode button again. It applies keyframes. Notice that it
put the speech bubble on video track two right above video track one which is the cat. And
when I click play notice that the speech bubble follows the cat. It's attached to that yellow
box that was surrounding the cat. And that's all we have to do. Now notice how it just
kind of pops on the screen. Another thing that I can do is click on the speech bubble
right-click go up to fade it in and it won't just pop on the screen. It will come in a
little more gently. Then it just kind of fades in and it sort of disappears. If I want it
to fade out I can do the same thing. Click on it once right, right click on the speech
bubble. Fade out video and that will help take it off the screen a little more smoothly.
So that's how you do motion tracking. You may find the tool to be a little bit challenging
in some ways. I've had to experiment a lot with it to get it to work the way it want
it to. But it can help you attach clip art or text. Anything that's in the clip art can
be drug to the video and attached with motion tracking or anything that's in the project
files. So if you have other items like text labels you can also drag those over and attach
them to that yellow box in motion tracking and it should work. Well good luck with motion
tracking and that's all I have in this tutorial. Bye for now.
