Hi oDeskers! My name is Keith Savageau and I'm a product manager here at oDesk.
Today I would like to take a couple of minutes to talk to you about the job feed;
a great way to find new jobs as soon as they become available.
A job feed is a collection of saved searches
which update in real time.
Let's take a minute and actually set up a saved search.
In your search box perform a standard search in this case I'm going to search for Java
and I'm brought to the job search results page
and you notice there is a new button called
in the middle of the page called add Java to your job feed.
Clicking on this button will bring up a confirmation screen
where you have the option of naming your saved search
then click add.
You will be immediately brought back to the find work landing page
and you will notice that you now have a saved search in your feed.
The jobs of that saved search are now populated in the middle of the screen.
Let's say we wanted to go back
and add a more
complex search.
Again let's search for Java this time time
and after reviewing the results we realize that there is a lot of
PHP jobs in the list.
So we want to eliminate all jobs that have
have PHP.
I'm a Java engineer, I don't know PHP.
So we are able to filter our results a little bit better by doing an advanced search.
By clicking on that link
a new window is brought up up
where you can enter in the "exact phrases" or "exclusions" that you want in your search.
In this case I'm going to put in any of these words,
i'm going to put in any of these words I'm going to enter Java
and exclude the words I'm going to put PHP.
I'll perform
the search
and you'll notice two things,
the first is that in the search query up above is a full boolean search
for Java and not PHP.
So its going to show me all jobs
that have the word Java
but do not have the word PHP.
I can go ahead and add this
to my feed
by clicking
the "Add the Feed" button.
I now have this new saved search included in my job feed.
You'll notice that now you have two saved searches searches
in your feed.
You can select
either of these
to see only the jobs associated to that particular field or you can select your job
feed
to see all of them together
This is the job feed and it's an excellent way for you
to fine tune exactly what you are looking for
and to get updates in real time.
Thanks so much oDeskers and happy working!
