You were a World Trade Center first responder in September of 2001. You spent many days
there or maybe you only spent a few days there. But what’s important is that you were there
to help at a time when we needed your help. Now, in the years that have passed, you’ve
found yourself with illnesses such as respiratory problems, cancer, or other illnesses you believe
may be related to your service at the World Trade Center. My name is Matthew McCauley.
I’m an attorney here at Parker Waichman and I represent first responders with respect
to their injuries in the World Trade Center litigations, as well as the Zadroga Act. In
addition to being an attorney at Parker Waichman, I’m also a retired New York City police
officer. I’ve been a paramedic for over 20 years and I was responder to both in ’93
and 2001 bombings. Let me tell what the Zadroga Act is and how it may be able to help you.
The Zadroga Act was signed by President Obama last year and is a bill that is set to assist
people with injuries related to their service at the World Trade Center. This includes health
care, as well as victims’ compensation. The health care is set up through Centers
of Excellence to provide the needed and necessary health care to those who have illnesses, such
as respiratory problems, gastro-intestinal or stomach issues, as well as other issues.
By taking advantage of the Zadroga Act, you will also be able to collect victims’ compensation
fund for your injuries. If you were involved in prior litigation or the original victims’
compensation fund, it’s important to know that you are not excluded from the second
victims’ compensation fund now, under the Zadroga Act. If you have any questions about
the World Trade Center victims’ compensation fund and Zadroga Act, call me. I handle these
questions every day and I handle them from the perspective of a first responder. Thank
you very much for watching. I’m Matthew McCauley, Parker Waichman.
