Erik: What is it like to partner in business with your partner in life?
Doug: Partnering with your business partner that is also your lover and person you live
with is super-interesting. My partner is someone I met almost 7 years ago, and I think one
of the challenges in our life up until now has been we've wanted to collaborate on creative
projects. My partner is insanely creative, insanely talented. I would argue she's more
talented than I am. And she hasn't had a way of releasing her creativity onto the world.
And our collective team has given her creative identity a lift because of the experience
and time I've had, and it's exciting to see the way she thinks within our platform, really
connect with our customers. I think it's really amazing being at the same wavelength as someone
all the time. You know, we go to work pretty much the same time, we eat pretty much the
same time at the same places. We take on different components of the business, I've been moved
into more of a sales position in a lot of ways and I oftentimes am part of defining
the larger vision for projects. And her skill sets are more around details and project management
but equally is amazing at all the creative components. And so we're having a great time
figuring this out, and there's a real sense of permanence. You know, we're engaged to
be married and just haven't had time to project manage our wedding, so we're really excited
about where it's going. And it's like, I don't know, it's amazing. You live 3 blocks from
where you work, you're with someone that you love every second of the day, and the things
that you're creating are beautiful and fun, so it's something that if you can find someone
that you can work with and love I would say do it, it's amazing. It's been incredible.
It's been amazing. And I love it. We love it. It's awesome. It's totally life-changing,
I mean, in every way. I almost tear up from it, it's just -- it's a level of trust that
is beyond any other thing. You know, it's like your success is dependent on it, your
love, your future, there's so much riding on it that it has to work, and it's working.
So it's cool.
