MapInfo Professional has released version 11.0 with improved capabilities and some
new functions. In this video we will take a look at some of them and show you how they work.
When you open a tab file in the browser, the first change you will notice is the background
color in alternating rows.
This will improve readability of the data in the table but this background color will not appear
in printouts. If you wish to change the background color of the browser window, use the
Browser Preferences available from the Options menu. You can pick a color for the alternating
rows.
Another change in the browser window is row selection. Clicking at the beginning of a
row highlights the entire row.
You can use the CONTROL key to select multiple rows.
When you delete a row, it appears as a thin gray line. You will see one gray line for each
row you have deleted.
You can now sort the data in a column. Just right-click in the browser and choose Sort from the
menu.
You can sort by more than one column if you wish.
The sorted data appears in a separate browser.
Another new function is the Move Map To capability. The Move Map To function allows you to re-
center the map view to a new location either by an address or a place name. You just need to
type an address or a place name and MapInfo Professional will search for a match.
Then double-click on the item in the results list and the map re-centers on that location. You
have the option to Preserve Current Scale of your map which will not change the zoom, or
Zoom To Best View which will zoom in on your chosen location.
However this is only available to customers who have purchased the MapInfo Premium Option.
MapInfo Professional allows you to print your map window or layout window to a Georegistered
PDF.
This will show degrees of longitude and latitude (or other map units) within the PDF as you
move your mouse around.
In addition to the Bing Aerial and Bing Hybrid layers that were added in version 10.5, you now
have the option to add a Bing Roads layer. However this is only available to customers who
have purchased the MapInfo Premium Option.
