If you are shooting with solid state devices like P2 Cards instead of tape,
Final Cut Pro has a separate logging process for ingesting the media.
Choose File > Log and Transfer. As soon as you add a card your system, Final
Cut Pro will list the clips residing on the card.
Select the clip and then set in and out points just as you would in the Log and
Capture window and fill out the data fields as desired.
Watch the lessons on Log and Capture for more information.
Here, we'll quickly modify the Reel name and then the Clip Name.
Then either click Add Clip to Queue or simply drag the clip from the viewer into
the queue in the lower left portion of the Log and Transfer window.
The Toggle Queue State button determines whether ingest to the clip happens
immediately or whether the clips will be queued first.
If you queue several clips, pressing the Toggle Queue State button will then
initiate the ingest. As each clip is downloaded to your hard drive,
it's removed from the Queue list. One more thing, if you aren't shooting with
solid state media, and need to dump your footage into Final Cut Pro quickly, use
the Automatic Transfer option. With this selected, Final Cut Pro will automatically
begin importing media as soon as the memory card is connected to your
Mac.
