The move tool will let you move your layers around on the canvas. This means if you change your mind about where you put that dog image, you can move it. The move tool is the BLUE 4 way arrow, not the grey and black one. Remember if you hover over the tools they will tell you their names.
Once you have selected the move tool, you just need to click on what you want to move and drag it to where you want it. It will select whatever is clicked on, even if thats not the layer selected in the layer stack.
If you want to move a text box though, you have to click precisely on one of the letters, otherwise it will move the layer underneath. You will see the arrow change to a different one when you are on a letter.
The scale and rotate tools are similar. The scale one will let you make layers in your image larger or smaller, and the rotate one will let you turn them. Both tools have popup window that shows as soon as you click with the tool. If this gets in the way, simply drag the box over to the side out of the way and continue using the tool.
The scale tool, once you click, will give you a grid and handles that can be dragged to resize the image. It will also show you a copy of the original size image behind the one you are resizing so you can compare. If you want to move the item while you are still resizing you can, but you have to click inside the little circle in the middle.
If you want to keep the same aspect ratio (that is, you dont want to stretch or squash your image) you can hold CTRL while you drag. When happy with the image simply click Scale in the pop up window.
The rotate tool works the same way, except you pull the handles around to turn it, and if you hold CTRL the image will snap to 15 degrees and any multiples of 15 degrees e.g. 45, 90 etc.
