This is Alcohol Mastery, my name’s Kevin O’Hara and welcome to the Thursday Tally
number 14.
I added a couple more videos to the website this week...
One of them was whether or not I’ve lost any weight since I stopped drinking...
And the other one was about how long does the tiredness last...
By the way, go over to the website and have a look at the videos over there because I
always add a bit more to the posts...
Stuff that I don’t add to the videos...
Ups and downs for the week...
I had a good friend who came down from Holland to see us during the week; she stayed with
us for a few days... Not a great drinker... but it’s just one of those times that you
always associate with drink, people coming down... the sun is shining... everyone’s
sat out on the balcony...
My sister came down yesterday... she is a drinker...
It was actually great to sit there with her and have a “***-up” without me actually
drinking... I enjoyed myself... I had a good time...
I lost another pound this week which is a good thing...
The brain farts are also coming fewer, and fewer, and fewer, and farther between...
Tonight, we’re going out with my brother... it’s his birthday... up to Jaen...haven’t
been up there in a while...
...it was the big drinking place for me... ...it’s just another one of those things!...
...it’s another part of life to enjoy...
My tip of the week is to get some daily quiet time...
It’s very important...
To get away on your own... ...to reflect...
...to think about things... ....just to be quiet...
...whatever... ...look at the view...
One of my favourite books is “Don’t sweat the small stuff” by Richard Carlson.
He talks about this in one of the chapters... He says that after a busy day’s work, coming
home from the commute, he always stops about two minutes away from where he lives.
He’ll pull over the car – he’s got a favourite spot – and he’ll look at the
view, or he’ll centre himself, he’ll just calm himself before he goes home...
And he says by the time he arrives home then he’s had that little bit of space – a
gap between the work day and going into his house to greet his family – and he said
everyone appreciates it...
Myself, at the beginning especially, I used to... say we’re going out to a restaurant,
or place where I’d normally have a drink where I was feeling tense, or irritated, or
something like that... I’d always leave for two or three minutes...
Come out of the restaurant, come out of the bar, my family’s home, and walk around for
two or three minutes...
...or lock myself in the toilet....
It’s whatever you can do to get that little bit of head space... and just calm yourself
down, do a couple of breathing exercises, center myself, get myself together... otherwise
I’d be going mad!
