Iwi are turning to each other
for examples of how they can improve Maori health statistics
and the overall health services for their people.
Today, Northland tribe Ngati Hine
met with long-time health provider Waikato Raukura Hauora
to exchange ideas to help them reach their potential.
A call to Hauora Ngati Hine to work with together
to reduce the negative Maori health statistics that plague Maori.
Ngati Hine is growing strength to strength in health services,
but by looking at other iwi structures,
they can continue to develop.
Raukura Hauora is well established
in the health field,
and we will take some of their ideas back to Ngati Hine.
It's not only health that bind these two tribes.
The ties go back a long way
to Hineamaru of Tainui,
and the links between Sir James Henare
and Te Atairangikaahu.
It's also said that King Tuheitia is descended from Hineamaru.
The ties run deep.
Raukura Hauora was established 22 years ago
as the first Maori health provider,
but they will never forget that other iwi help them get established.
As Sir James Henare said,
we have come too far not to go further.
Potaka Maipi, Te Karere.
