- Please Introduce yourself to the readers - Hi, I am the crossover pop pianist Choi Soo Min. It's really nice to meet you.
- I am a composer and pianist and arrange classical music whilst recreating it in a pop style for my music.
- Why did you choose to arrange classical music? - I love classical music, but it's not popular in Korea.
So I'm trying to make music that people can listen to easily.
- Who is your favourite classical composer? - I like Chopin and Rachmaninoff. Their music is moderately powerful and delicate.
There are many great composers, but I do love their music more than any other.
- What other genres of music do you play besides classical music? - I love many kinds of music. There are so many styles in the world.
When I want to relax I play Steve Barakatt and Yiruma's lyricism music.
I would like to play Stravinsky's "Petrushka" these days, but it's really hard.
- What is different about you compared to other crossover artists? - Usually people think all crossover musicians are the same.
But I have a favourite cord and arpeggio style. If you listen carefully you can hear it.
- Do you think classical music is part of the Korean Wave? - There are many kinds of music in the world, but not all of them are popular
I make and play classical music. I don't want to change my style. I want to keep my uniqueness,
so then people will get to know my music, and someone will then become a fan.
- If you could do other types of music, what kind would you do? - I was a vocalist in an amateur rock band, but my favourite type of music is funky music.
It's very dynamic and fun, it's also possible to change the rhythmical elements.
So I like the funky style.
- What is your goal in music? - I think every musician is the same, that we all want to let people know about our music.
I arrange classical music with popular pop music so more people will recognize my music.
- What do you have planned these days? - I am preparing for my next album and I hope to have a concert again in Europe very soon.
- What are your thoughts on collaborating with K-pop musicians? - I want to collaborate with other K-pop musicians,
if I work with any musician it's going to be a big challenge but pleasant work.
- Do you have any other plans about creating music for Drama's or Cinematic O.S.T's? - I'm a crossover musician so I don't have any restrictions here.
I try to grow musically and I want to see many different people within different fields of work.
- You were a boxer before becoming a pianist, which one is more difficult? - This is a difficult question! When we learn new things you're adventurous and you try hard.
I mean, everything is difficult if you want the best. So both are difficult.
- When you have a hard time, what helps you calm down? - My parents are always helpful to me.
When I stopped boxing and then moved on to play the piano, they always cheered me on.
Also my fans cheer me on as well when I check Facebook and VK, it's really helpful.
- What can you recommend for someone wanting to be a musician? - I want to say it's not just work, just enjoy the music
Don't make limit yourself and head into different kinds of music.
That way you can get bigger results.
- Could you please leave a message for MCMBuzz.com readers and your fans! - I appreciate your interest and you cheering for me. I am trying to make good music.
I want to see you guys with my new album. Please keep waiting for me! Also a big thank you to MCMBuzz.com readers and fans.
