Hi! This is Stacey from Expert Village. In this video clip, I will be talking about some
ideas for toys for ages 9 months and up. A toy that works great for this age is a puzzle.
You want to make sure that the puzzle has big pieces. It's something that's familiar
that they like. This puzzle has animals. Another thing is to make sure the knobs on the puzzle
is large enough for them to grab. A puzzle allows them to work on their fine motor skills,
problem solving, and it also helps them with size and shape discrimination as well as help
them visually. Some ideas on how to use a puzzle is to talk about the animals as well
as the sounds they make, for example on this puzzle, as well as encourage them and get
excited when they do fit the piece onto the puzzle. Another idea for this age group is
to use a ball. Earlier we used the ball for kicking it while they're sitting down. In
this instance, I would like them to try and stand up or have you as the adult hold them
and kind of kick it with their feet to practice, and help them with their eye foot coordination
as well as with their motor skills. This ball will actually help them with social skills
while encouraging them and talking to them while playing with the ball.
