Hi I'm Pam on behalf of Expert Village and I'm going to teach you how to bring home fundamentals
learned at school. Now many parents may think that a block center kids are just playing
with blocks, but they're actually a lot of skills that are going to help them later in
life. For instance, they're learning to negotiate over materials that they want to use. For
instance, say you have two cars, and one kid has both of them another kid might come up
and suggest that his favorite color's green. So maybe it's really nice if, you know, if
he gave him the car. They're negotiating and learning how to get people to cooperate with
them. Now when they carry and carefully place blocks in to a certain thing they're actually
building small muscles. When they're balancing blocks they're developing small muscles. They're
improving their hand eye coordination when they try to line blocks up. This also gives
them the opportunity to use their brain and recreate things that they've seen in real
life. For instance if you ask them to go build a house, many of them, however they get it
to stay; they're going to make a pointed roof. They can recreate things that they've actually
seen. Now, you may wonder how can I bring this home and play with my kids in the same
way. Well, get them talking. Kids love to talk about what they're doing. So for instance
if you see them building a road. You can come up to them and say "Hey, I see a stop sign
here don't you see stop signs along the side of the road?" or "This, this is a turn signal.
Would you put that up there?" and they'll go "Yeah yeah I saw one and I think they should
stop right here and yeah he's going to ride on this side of the road." And he's going
to be stopped at the stop sign. Kids will get talking once you get them started. This
is great way to brings that they're learning in blocks and to share with you at home.
