Hi, everyone. Wolf Bracker, here. And, today's story is about, the creation of GOVA, which
stands for Global Online Video Association. And, how this will affect the networks, here
on you tube. But, first let me give you more information
about GOVA. Let me read you a quote from an online article
called, Big YouTube Channels Join Forces to Help Drive Ads, Meet GOVA, the Global Online
Video Association
"The Web video world is getting its own trade organization: GOVA, the Global Online Video
Association—a nonprofit group formed with the primary goal of bringing more advertisers
to the medium."
So, a non-profit organization is created, to help bring in more money by advertisers.
Non-profit organizations aren't supposed to be about money or profit.
So, this is like if a group was created by homeless people to help make money for the
rich and wealthy.
The amount of hypocrisy behind this is staggering to say the least!
But, let's dig a little deeper, shall we. And, talk about who is behind this.
This next quote is from, an online article called, YouTube's Biggest Networks Team Up
To Drive Bigger Ad Sales, but before I read the quote, MCN is another way of saying, networks
for those that don't know.
"GOVA's main goal is to foster better relationships between its partner MCNs, ad agencies, talent
shops, and platforms like YouTube. The hope is that, with networks working together and
creating online video advertising standards and guidelines, more favorable deals can be
brokered."
That's fine, that the networks want to get better ad deals. I understand that they are
in the business of making money, first and foremost. But, what about getting better ad
deals and making more money for the members of their network? They really need to share
the wealth.
Let me read you one more quote, from the same online article.
"GOVA is a response to increasingly negative feelings among online video professionals
about the viability of the MCN model. In the past year, many people have speculated that,
for all the venture capital raised by MCNs, they are simply not profitable in the long
run. GOVA hopes that, by uniting the largest MCNs and setting up strategies to increase
income, it can prove these naysayers wrong."
A lot of people, I know, here on you tube, hate the networks. And, rightly so, because
they take a large portion of your money and offer very little in return.
So, I totally agree, with the negative feelings toward networks. And, if a network, or MCN's
as they are called, is losing money, then that's because their losing paying members.
And, that's the real problem with networks in general. Is that not only are they are
all about the money, but also they really don't care about it's members. And, that's
just really bad business.
As for networks not being profitable in the future. It wouldn't surprise me to hear of
one or more going bankrupt.
From what I have been reading. You tube ad revenue is way down for content creators and
it's going to get a lot worse, next year.
So, I honestly don't see how creating some non profit organization is supposed to magically
change everyone's opinion of networks and make a lot more money for them. I really don't.
Thanks so much
for watching, as always.
