Digital inclusion
How does São Paulo face this challenge
Telecentre in our community has come expand not only digital inclusion
but also local development.
We have had HTML workshops, research workshops
a game championship
we have transformed the informatics class room into a movie theater
putting films to get al little bit out of the robotic action.
The site creation workshop started 'cause people would come to the Telecentre
and the basic informatics course would be over and they would then only come to practice
Telecentre was being used for people to participate in the basic course
and then have a free access, without taking any other course.
The site creation workshop has an especial importance
for the youngest, that have learned informatics early
since children,
and that are always looking for something else
that will awaken their curiosity.
So they find in the site creation workshop
a form of discovering a new labour market,
discover how to do their blogs, to make their pages...
And some of the people can even develop this proffesionally.
There are already two created sites about the community. they looked for information, they researched
to put this in the site.
the Journalism workshop started in November. After 1 month and 15 days,
after reading all the journalistic texts
we decide to put together a fanzine through pasting called "point of view".
I got into the journalism group through the workshop.
At the beginning it thought it was just a course
later I realized we were going to put together a project, a little newspaper.
At the beginning of the workshop there were 15 people. Today, we are only 4 people left from that group
and two others entered today, two new integrants.
it's a monthly newspaper. The first edition was pasted, so were the second and the third.
in the fourth edition, we were able to get more advertisers and sent it to a printing house.
I decided to get into the group of journalism workshop
due to the proposal that I found interesting, the proposal of communicating happenings
that happen in the community to the community.
To warn and to make an un-alienation of the people who live here.
The reportage about violence was what I most liked to make.
because I had the opportunity to show to the neighborhood population
what was happening, and with a fixed idea of changing,
with this reportage to make things happen
to show to the population that they have a voice, that they could speak...
An article about peace, at the time of the U.S. war against Iraq...
I found it very interesting, very good.
Because the war wasn't only that that was happening happening there, that there are wars going on
here in our own naeighborhood, in our country, and we do not see this because we are so used to
this type of violence.
The first dance festival of Santa Lúcia Telecenter
was the integration of the family, of the student, of the school
and the valorization of the culture in the Jardim Santa Lucia community.
When I got to know about this contest in the Telecentre, I enrolled my students.
I made three dance groups, on of pop
one of axé, lambaerobics e o ballet.
And what really expanded, that was successful, was the ballet.
The community thinks of axé and we think: "let's do ballet that is more difficult".
When we won, we got very happy...
I thought it was really cool, very good for us.
We were recognized on the street everyone that passes by says:
"look the Lisbon Gym, that girl danced".
We got the gold medal, promotion in the Internet and a trophy.
Every now and then Itamar gives a chance to watch films on the computer,
which is really cool, ion addition to the promotion in the Internet that has been very important.
Each Telecentre has its cultural space.
Each Telecentre can have a library.
this library has been sponsored by Conrad Publishing House.
the books as you see them, we have separated by the order
didactic books, dictionaries, English-Portuguese.
At the back we also have a television and a VCR
sometimes we put cartoons and films for the children to watch.
So while the parents attend the courses the children watch cartoons.
I got a job through the Telecentre with the basic course on informatics
offered by monitor Ricardo and HTML workshop by José Hildo.
I put that in my resume, of course, I am not a fool.
And I got a job in a micro-enterprise.
The only thing is that here I learnt GNU/Linux and there it is Windows that they use
but one things takes to the other. I use what I have learned her, there with Windows.
Even though it is GNU/Linux, there are same things, it is not so different.
Before when there was no Telecentre folks were on the street, playing.
Now I come more here 111 00:08:26,900 --> 00:08:31,800 Sometimes I get on the teachers nerves, I play here volumes...
Well, what I was going to say is that this has also helped a lot the neighborhood
this is kind of culture of the neighborhood.
Before I lived in this slum without doing a thing.
Many children that were there in the middle of the big stairs making a mess,
doing graffiti, which is against the law, are here today learning a new life style.
I took the street as a portal to the criminality.
But then I entered here and started to research. I looked for hip-hop.
I found out through Internet that the street is not the portal for the criminality,
but also for our future, for an education.
"Ah, I am from the street, I am bad, this and that, I will steal and so."
I would even steal, I would enter in the supermarket and take things.
I am not going to lie.
And today I do not do those things anymore, because I have seen it's not worth while,
It is better for me to work and gain my money to buy what I want
than to be stealing.
Telecentre is much more than that. We contribute to combating famine,
we have transformed the Telecentre in to an entertainment.
It's culture, it is education and digital inclusion.
