ERIKA WASSER: Hi my name is Erika Wasser.
I am a comedienne and host of SpacesTV.
I was living in Soho and I loved my neighborhood.
I had my coffee guy on the corner and my local dive bar
across the street.
I moved because they raised my rent by about $900.
They just jacked it up.
There aren't enough of you watching SpacesTV,
that's why I moved.
I need a rich boyfriend.
We found this place inside of Tribeca.
The apartment is a hot mess.
I walked in, and it took me about 15 minutes to walk in
because there's a hell of a lot of stairs.
I think what we really want to do with the space
is make it our own.
And make it a place that we are really proud of, and that
we can bring people back to.
And we want to make this place our own, and we want to make
it beautiful.
You know, then there's also the reality that this is a
fixer upper.
Hey!
JEN BANDES: Hi, how are you?
ERIKA WASSER: Good, how are you?
Thank you for coming.
JEN BANDES: Thank you, for having me.
ERIKA WASSER: So this is the space.
JEN BANDES: This is awesome.
ERIKA WASSER: Thank you.
The previous tenants had left everything.
So we walked in to dirt, debris,
bags and bags of garbage.
JEN BANDES: So you moved in and it was a disaster.
ERIKA WASSER: Yeah.
JEN BANDES: And there was remnants of everyone's past
existence, and all sorts of chaos strewn around the house.
Well let's look over here.
I'll show you what I have set up.
ERIKA WASSER: OK.
JEN BANDES: So this is sage.
And sage has traditionally been used in all sorts of
American Indian and Native American traditions.
And it's just meant to be a ceremonial
smoke that is purifying.
So you hold the sage, and you use the feather to waft the
smoke into the areas of the home to see
where energy's stuck.
Yeah.
So this is a charcoal incense burner, and you light this and
then you put the powdered incense on top.
And it's just a different way to generate smoke.
[GIGGLING]
JEN BANDES: Is it too much in your eyes?
ERIKA WASSER: No, it's good.
JEN BANDES: See, it has a very different smell.
ERIKA WASSER: Whoa.
I like this one better than the sage.
JEN BANDES: We're going to make some noise
with a little shaker.
Energy is matter, so we want to just actually create sounds
to displace where the energy is stuck.
So you could use a tambourine.
And you can pound on the tambourine.
Yeah.
Just thinking like you're shaking out the energy.
ERIKA WASSER: Oh, god, this is so much fun.
It's OK, Gizmo.
JEN BANDES: So you ready for the kitchen fire?
ERIKA WASSER: I'm ready for the kitchen fire.
JEN BANDES: It's said that the Epsom salts can really just
pull any of the negative ions out of the air.
It's great to use, as I said before, in baths
for things like this.
And the idea is that the Epsom salt is a purifying element.
And it's also good to have all the elements in the place.
So we use smoke for air.
We'll use water with the squirter.
Now we have fire.
And then, to keep the earth element in the house is to
actually have a small bowl salts somewhere where you
want, maybe by the front door, to capture any kind of
negativity that comes in and out.
It's a symbolic gesture.
We're just going to take these lovely salts and sprays and
infuse, now, into the room what you want to see.
So tell me some of the feelings you want to feel,
ideally, optimally, you would feel in this room when you
came home at the end of the day.
ERIKA WASSER: You'd feel at peace.
JEN BANDES: You'd feel peace.
ERIKA WASSER: You'd feel energized.
JEN BANDES: Energized, refreshed.
ERIKA WASSER: You'd feel optimistic.
And you'd feel like you could go out into the world and
accomplish.
So it's amazing.
I love it.
How do I keep it this way?
JEN BANDES: So we talked about and your roommates sitting
down and holding space for one another as you come up with
your intentions and how you want to live and live your
lives in the space and the values that you want your
lives to represent and how you want to feel in
your day to day life.
The next step is to notice, are things going in the
direction of how we set our intentions?
If not, check in.
What's happening in my life on a personal level that could be
holding me back from doing that?
And if there's nothing immediately
there, look to the space.
Like do I feel good in my space?
And if you don't, you can do any one of these things by
themselves.
You do not have to do the entire space
clearing ritual again.
But it's nice to A, set the intention to reconnect with
the energy of the home, and get really clear what your
intentions are again.
ERIKA WASSER: Thank you, so much.
This was so much fun.
JEN BANDES: Yeah!
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
ERIKA WASSER: I'm excited to create, I guess.
And now we have this giant project of
renovating this space.
And actually decorating it and putting, not only our energy,
but our stuff in.
And expressing ourselves in the physical sense.
So this couldn't have been at a more perfect time.
It's going to be a long road.
JEN BANDES: But now you have a really clean space to fill
with everything that you want and do the decorations and
make it yours.
ERIKA WASSER: Yeah.
Are we're very excited to do it.
JEN BANDES: Woo hoo!
ERIKA WASSER: Thank you.
JEN BANDES: Yay!
ERIKA WASSER: You've been watching "It's Got Potential."
