SOME LOCAL ANGLERS AREN'T HAPPY
WITH "BEER AT THE PIER." THIS
COMES AS A LIQUOR LICENSE
APPLICATION IS BEING CONSIDERED
FOR THE GULF STATE
PARK PIER. WHAT WOULD THAT MEAN
FOR THIS
POPULAR ATTRACTION? FOX10 NEWS
REPORTER MATT BARRENTINE
GOT SOME ANSWERS.
< Since opening in 2009, the
Gulf State Park Pier has become
one of the most popular
attractions
on Baldwin County Beaches.
There's a mix of tourists,
locals, and hardcore
anglers enjoying mother nature.
But some of the regulars feel
the peace will be threatened if
alcohol comes to the pier.
"We've got a lot of visitors and
kids and that
sort of thing and don't think
this is the environment for it.
We got a family oriented place
here and I think that's the way
it should stay." Recently the
park
filed an application for a
liquor license with the city of
Gulf Shores. A yes vote from the
City Council Monday would be
needed for approval.
Visitor Peggy Jo Christian says
the city might want to be
careful about granting that
license. "You can't control how
much somebody drinks. It looks
like it might open it up, if
you're talking
about right here, to a big
liability." "The application
would be for a grill that's
being put here under the
pavilion to sell alcohol, but
that alcohol could still not go
out past the gate and out onto
the pier
itself." So folks couldn't wheel
out coolers full of beer.
Some regulars feel if alcohol
sales are regulated they could
live with it. "I'm a member of
the forum and I know some of
them don't agree with that but I
do agree with it I
think it would be a great idea."
