Hi! I'm Jennifer Kimball and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how
to organize and maintain your book collection. Once you have your books all completely organized
and they're on their shelves, you're going to start accumulating dust. It's important
to know how to clean your books. Of course, with books shelves, it's fairly easy. You
just want to use a cloth to wipe away any dust. It is important to not use any type
of spray furniture polish. Most bookcases aren't going to use it anyway, but you don't
want to risk any of the oils getting onto your books. You want to only use a dry cloth.
Micro fiber is fantastic for this for wiping down the bookshelves. If you want to very
6 months or so, you want to take your books out and gently wipe them too. You want to
be careful when wiping your books to not catch on the edges of the dust jacket. Every few
months or so, or few weeks if you have a cat that likes to climb into your bookcases, you'll
probably also want to use a vacuum to get all of the cat fur and dust out. For this,
you want to make sure you have a dusting tool because this isn't going to be as harsh as
just using a crevice tool on your vacuum cleaner. You can go just along the edges of your bookshelf.
Depending on how strong your vacuum cleaner is, you can also dust vacuum away the dust
from the tops of your books this way as well. The last thing you would even have to worry
about in cleaning is if you were to have a fire and you have lots of smoke. You're probably
best off hiring professional cleaners, but if you have to do the task yourself, then
you want to have a cloth either micro fiber or another soft cloth. For this, you'll probably
have to flip through some of the pages of the book just to make sure that there isn't
any sit inside. Not a task I'd wish upon anyone, but just in case you have to do it, that's
how. You want to make sure that you keep your books nice and dust free. Both for general
cleaningness and also so that you don't have a sneezing attack every time you pull out
a book that it's been a long time since you've read it. These very simple cleaning tips will
help you keep a dust free library.
