ARE YOU PREPARED FOR A CHANGE IN YOUR TRADITIONAL SEMESTER SCHEDULE?
CHANCELLOR PAUL SISSON AND PROVOST JOHN VASSAR RECENTLY HELD A FOCUS GROUP TO DISCUSS A NEW
WAY TO SERVE AND ATTRACT STUDENTS TO LSU-S.
THE APPROACH IS KNOWN AS A "SECOND-CHANCE" SEMESTER THAT WOULD CHANGE THE CURRENT SIXTEEN-WEEK
SEMESTERS INTO TWO EIGHT-WEEK TERMS.
We've been to figure out ways to have those second chances for a number of classes.
We are limited in our resources and that goes back to the state funding. But if we make a wholesale change in the calendar
this kind of change actually would be easy.
PARTICIPANTS OF THE GROUP ASKED QUESTIONS AND EXPRESSED THEIR OPINIONS ON THE APPROACH.
The accelerated program is very attractive, because I feel like I can complete it in a
short amount of time and get into the workforce where I want to be.
Doesn't do much though for the non-traditional that is holding a job down and, possibly,
is it too much change too fast?
THERE ARE STILL MATTERS TO DISCUSS, BUT SISSON AND VASSAR ENCOURAGE THE OPINION OF THE LSU-S COMMUNITY.
THEY HOPE TO LAUNCH A PILOT PROGRAM TO TEST IT'S SUCCESS IN THE FALL OF 2013.
