Hi, my name is Carlos and this is Proyecto GTG.
Ladies and gentlemen...
just because you asked for it
Directly from GTG entertainment television
On this side, I introduce to you ... SCIENCE
And on the other side...the other team...nothing less and nothing more than...RELIGION
Stop..this topic has been requested by many of you...
Ay Carlos...talk about Science and Religion
You think this is easy? You think that just like that I will investigate such a complex topic...
So long, with so much information, so controversial and I have to comprise it into a 5 minute video?
That is right...
Well, this may be the first of several videos where we talk about science and religion
But we have to begin somewhere, don't you think?
When you talk about science and religion this is the image you get... 15 00:01:11.00 --> 00:01:15.50 Like if all those who like or practice science hate or are against religion...
And like if all those who like religion or practice their faith are against science.
But here in Project GTG we do not conform with what people say or believe, just like that
But we like to investigate and think...
so why don't we go back in time to see a bit of... history
Between the 1500's and 1800's which is when modern science was born...
the relation between science and religion can be described not as much as a war but as an alliance
The scientists of the 19th century were typically practitioners of Christianity
and they did not see any conflict between Christianity and faith
Geniuses like Kepler, Boyle, Maxwell, Farley, Kelvin and others
The idea that there should be war between science and religion is something relatively new...
that was born at the end of the 19th century from the secular thinkers...
whose objective was to go against the cultural dominium of christianity in the west
They wanted to replace it with the concept of NATURALISM, talking about philosophy
the belief that says that nothing out of the natural is real
and that the only way to discover the truth is through science
SCIENCE
What is the problem with this??? While science examines the universe...
if finds with problems and questions that are naturally philosophically and cannot be solved scientifically
But, they can be illuminated through a theological perspective
Questions like what is my purpose here on earth? What is my intrinsic value as a human being?
Does soul exist? Why should this matter to me? and if eventually I am going to die...
and everything is just a coincidence and there is no objective behind that, what is the point?
Good question.
Similarly, many religions around the world hold beliefs about the origin and nature of humanity
Different religions have different beliefs among them, that means that not all of them can be true
and here is where science gives us knowledge about the start of the universe and how nature functions
The philosopher and theologist William Lane Craig says this about the topic:
"Science and religion are then like two circles intersecting and partially overlapping each other"
It is in that area of intersection where we need to talk"
This means that at a certain point, religion and science work TOGETHER
with mutual interest that contribute to the objective of discovering the truth.
Now there are people that compares these two and say look everything science has given us...
technology, medicine, knowledge, etc. and look at your faith...it has given us nothing of that...
Conclusion: science wins…so, you better forget about your faith
What??? It's like if you want to compare arts and mathematics and you say...
look at what math has given us and you show your list of calculus, formulas, etc.
and then you say...you see...art has given us nothing like that...
conclusion...math is better and you reject art...don't bother me...
it does not make sense
People that still believe that science and religion are not related to each other must understand that that story is old
the dialogue where there is intersection of possible conflict between these two is a popular practice among professionals in these two areas
Popular magazines like Nature, British Journal for the Philosophy of Science...
bring articles of free discussions of the implications of science and theology.
The dialogue between these two has become now so relevant that prestigious universities like Cambridge and Oxford...
have established departments of science and theology
If they are studying both and you still do not agree that these dialogue is needed
Either you are right and all the professors in these prestigious universities are wrong...
or they are talking about these topics and it is you the one behind...wake up man.
If you are Christian it does not mean you have to hate science...
In my opinion, that would be ridiculous, because being able to study and understand the world that God created is a gift
If you find some apparent conflict between your faith and science why not talk about it?
The same for the other side...if you love science it does not mean you have to reject theology
Just like I told you, science is great to explain many things but it stays short in answering some questions that go beyond what your eyes can see.
They also have their limits
Having said this...this is my introduction about science vs. religion
In other videos, if you want, we can talk a little more about how science and theology work together in the search of truth
