Hello everyone, this is Patty with Deutmeyer Consulting Services. Today, I'm going to teach
you how to clean up an audio file using Audacity. Aucacity is a free software that can be easily
downloaded from the web. Open Audacity, select file and open. Select an audio file and open
it, and it will import it into the system. It is always recomended that when you do a
recording that you leave a small space in front to capture the ambient noise, computer
noise, background noise or whatever you would like to call it. For example, in this case
if you listen to the beginning of this tape, hopefully you can hear it, it's pretty stacticy.
We want to remove that. So we just have the nice spoken verbiage that is recorded here.
So the first thing you want to do is highlight the sample area of the background static noise.
Select "Effect". Select "Noise Removal" and press the "Get Noise Profile" button. Then
we want to select the entire recording. If you have a PC hit Ctrl + A on your keyboard.
Hit "Effect", "Noise Removal" again. Then you can preview it and move these sliders
back and forth until you get the sound or lack of sound that you want. I like these
settings, so I'm going to hit OK. Notice that it changed, the static area flatlined. So
I'll play that again. Notice how clean that sounds, all you hear is the voice quality.
That's what were looking for. Then you'll hit "File" then "Export" and save it whatever
folder and if you use the dropdown arrow you can select whatever format you would like
to export it. I'm just going to save this over the other audio file. It asks me if I
want to replace it. I say yes. I can give it artist name, etc. I already have that populated
then hit OK. And that's it. I hope you find this tutorial useful and have a wonderful
day!
