Kafi Drexel: When Susan Gyurisko first noticed cellulite forming on her legs, she wanted it gone
as quickly as possible. Thanks to the new
treatment Cellulaze, just approved by the FDA, she got her wish.
Susan Gyurisko: It's just amazing. You can see the results. At least for me,
I saw the results within 3 months.
Kafi: Cellulaze is a new medical laser device doctors are now using to treat cellulite.
The major innovation, it's the first time doctors have been able to treat it in one session
with lasting results.
Dr. Bruce Katz: We make tiny incisions in the skin. They're so tiny in fact, that we don't
even put stitches in. And we insert a little 1 mm-size optical fiber, laser fiber, which is
tiny, tiny, tiny. And we have it melt the septa or the skeleton that pulls down on the skin. We melt
the fat that pushes up at the skin that causes the irregularities that we know as cellulite.
Kafi: Within just a few months of the procedure, before and afters show patients' skin
going from ripply currents to a smoothed out surface. Another approach which is non-invasive
is the Venus Freeze. It works to dissolve cellulite and tighten the skin over 6-8 weeks
of treatments. It uses radio frequency and magnetic pulse technology
to heat the fat and boost collagen.
Dr. Neil Sadick: It's that combination of radio frequency heating and magnetic pulsing that
increases your cell activity that has shown very promising results in the treatment of cellulite
by remolding the fat cells and tightening the areas around the fat cells that are responsible
for the formation of cellulite
Kafi: Doctors say you don't have to be in perfect shape for these kind of treatments
to work but you do want to be in your best possible to see maximum benefits.
Dr. Sadick: Exercise and good diet will reduce the size of your fat cells number one,
and number two also it'll allow when you have these treatments, the skin to re-drape itself
better so that the skin will be tighter.
Kafi: Venus Freeze requires repeat visits once or twice a year to maintain results.
Studies on Cellulaze so far show one treatment may be effective up to two years.
