Hi I'm Amy Franklin. I'm an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics
I am practicum in sundered in the National Center for Cognitive Informatics and decision making
I trained at the University of Chicago and actually have a joint PhD in Psychology and Linguistics
I'm interested in how cognition and communication impact one another and how this plays out in the medical context
I do a wide range of research
I look at everything from decision making in the Emergency Department
to why people talk about red blood cell transfusions and do different sorts of tasks
I look at everything from how EHR's are used
to aspects of mental model matching between what a person thinks and what a computer system is designed to do
I teach classes on everything from cognitive research methods, cognitive engineering.
I'm currently teaching a class on social dynamics
In all I have a wide range of interests and a wide range of graduate students
I currently work with students who look at everything from sensitive conversations and patient navigators
to students who are looking at things like semantic seminaries and oncologies
So there's a wide range of things going on at the center
And I have an interest in all of them
