Now it's working.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to welcome you to the FedCon press conference number 21.
That is a good number, isn't it?
Thank-you for coming and I will keep it short.
A little thank-you to our sponsors, first of all to all of them.
I will name a few by name:
Paramount Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox,
SyFy, Kosmos, who will make a short presentation here.
We have a number of small dealer stands here as well.
And we have a nice stand for a party drink which is called "Ficken"! Now you can all laugh (Ficken is the German word for "***")!
And we have, I will present that as well: Fergel - the Fed Cat, our FedCon Mascot.
That's new and I hope you all received a little Fergel as a key ring when you picked up your press card. If not pick it up at the press table.
So now I want to ask Ms Klotz and Mr Rapp from Kosmos to come and present the new game: Star Trek Catan.
I wish you a nice day from me. My name is Doreen Klotz and that is my colleague Sebastian Rapp
And we are here to represent the Kosmos publishers.
We are here because we have a new game: Star Trek Catan.
I hope we can see it here...
Then I would ask you to visit our big stand, there you can pick up your own copy.
You can have a look, it is quite nice.
A little about us; Mr Rapp is the editor that is responsible for all the Catan games.
That includes Star Trek Catan.
He will tell you something about the game itself.
I am the person responsible for press liaison in the gaming department,
and that is why I am here.
I hope you know... no picture.
I hope you all know the game: The Settlers of Catan.
It is one of our primary products.
The publishers are based in Stuttgart...
Great, that is the game that you hopefully all know.
One of our primary products.
Our company has offered this game since 1995.
It is a game by Klaus Tauber.
And since then, this game has been unbelievably successful.
It has been sold worldwide over 18 million times
It is played just as well in China as also in Italy, Russia or in the USA
and in lots of other countries.
It has not remained with just the basic game,
the complete Catan family has grown to 20 products.
From the version for two players and various other versions.
This year we also released a Baden-Württemberg edition,
as that German state is now 60 years old.
And what was missing up until now,
was a nice classic licensed edition.
We spent a long time looking for a fitting setting,
and we think with the world of Star Trek,
we have found something which matches ideally to
the game concept of The Settlers of Catan.
And with that, I want to introduce Mr Rapp,
who will tell you more about the game itself.
As Ms Klotz just told you,
this is the first licensed edition.
We very consciously chose Star Trek
because we think it has something big in common with our game.
They both have a positive and peaceful philosophy behind them.
There are conflicts, but they are primarily not solved with violence, but with other ways.
We find that could and want to keep it that way with Catan and find this good with Star Trek.
There is a big difference between Star Trek and Catan.
Star Trek lives from the characters,
whereas Catan does not have any characters.
That was a bit of a problem for us,
It was relatively simple to convert landscapes into planets,
convert streets into starships,
Raw materials like wood and lime became dilithium and tritanium.
That was not the problem, but we still had the problem that we had no characters.
Luckily, Klaus Tauber had just released
a card set that introduced 10 characters from
the Catan online world into the board game.
And we could use those characters.
The longest process was to assign 10 characters from classic,
if possible from the crew, that we could use and also to attribute their capabilities into the game.
When you think how many characters are in the crew,
we did not find 10 characters out of the crew,
we had to cheat a bit because we only had 9,
but all the same, we found our ten characters.
Are there any questions?
We are available for your questions, perhaps later.
Otherwise, I give you back to Ms Klotz.
There is a table over there where the games can be found,
and anyone who is interested can just take one.
Thank you for your attention.
Thank-you.
Before we can greet our star guests, I have some bad news.
Joel Gretsch told us, last night, that he has to cancel his visit here.
He tried up to the last minute, but he could not be released from filming.
He is unable to take part at the FedCon.
I only heard this last night at about 11pm when he told us.
Some of our Star guests are not here because they are still on the way or suffering from jet lag.
Those that will not be here are Matthew Bennet, Terry Rothery, Bill Shatner, Walter Koenig, Jonathan Frakes, Joe Flanigan, Gates McFadden, and Nicolas Brendon is still asleep as well.
Sorry, but I think we have a good selection all the same.
I will just look if our guests are ready and then we can welcome them.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please greet with me the stars of the FedCon 21.
Is Felicia Day here? OK, sorry she is coming later.
So, ladies and gentlemen, You have until about noon to ask our guests some questions.
And who wants to start?
The next question?
I will stop this if no more questions are coming!
Who wants to ask the next question?
Who wants to ask the next question?
And the next question please.
Is there anybody from "Die Welt" here? [A major German newspaper]
