Meet Democrat Sean Barney. A graduate of Swarthmore who studied law at Yale
and economics at Harvard, Sean took a different path than most of his
classmates. After college,
he joined the staff from the US senator Bill Bradley
working his way up from driver to speechwriter. Then Sean was a top aide to
Tom Carper during his first senate campaign
against powerhouse incumbent Bill Ross. Sean worked as Carper's policy director
and advised him on budget and economic policies in the senate.

Then came 9/11. Sean felt that it was his personal responsibility to serve
our country
instead of sitting comfortably in washington while others did the fighting.
He was urged to become an officer but instead
Sean enlisted as a grunt in the Marines. He trained at Parris Island
then volunteered to fight in Iraq. While hunting for insurgents in Fallujah,
Sean took a bullet in the neck. Saved by a talented Navy surgeon,
he faced a long recovery. Barney returned to Delaware in continued serving our state
as the policy director for Governor Jack Markell. Now Sean is running to become our
state treasurer
to put into practice all he's learned. In Delaware, we expect our elected officials
to treat each other with respect
work together and get things done. That's what Barney has done his entire life.
That's what he'll do state treasurer.
