Martin Luther King Day of Service is a national service initiative,
so communities all across the nation, today,
are banding together and doing community service, and you know,
attempting to better their communities through doing that,
and it is our way of honoring and celebrating the life
of Dr. Martin Luther King.
We had about 100 students register,
but we had a great walk-in participation today,
so I’m expecting us to have about 150 students participating.
We are here volunteering at Supplies Overseas,
hich is a non-profit organization that takes unused medical supplies
and distributes them to third world countries.
My friend Valencia, she said she was going to be volunteering,
so I said maybe I’ll follow her and do something useful with my day.
I just kind of woke up and looked online and knew where to find everyone,
so I came out and they signed me up for here so I’m glad I came.
It’s just community uplift and it’s going beyond our community really.
There’s a worldwide uplift and there’s a need for that.
We want the students who are passionate about community service
and who want to make a difference in their community to be here today
with us to celebrate Martin Luther King,
but also just to learn about all the different ways they
can get involved and make an impact in this community.
