Macrolides is a class of antibiotic medications that are commonly used to treat certain kinds
of infections. Macrolides work by preventing bacteria from replacing their proteins which
causes them to eventually break down and die. Macrolides share a few common side effects
including nausea, diarrhea, cramping, and vomiting. These side effects are usually mild
and temporary. Some examples of macrolides include azithromycin, the generic name for
Z-Pak, and erythromycin, the generic name for Ery-Tab. Let your doctor or pharmacist
know if you are taking other medications including certain cholesterol medications like statins
before taking a macrolide. Taking these medications together may increase the risk of certain
serious side effects. It is always a good idea to ask questions about your medication
if you are unsure or if you experience something out of the ordinary. For more information
on these medications or others, explore the RxWiki encyclopedia on the web or on your
