Hello my name is Pattie in the next few minutes I am going to be telling you one of Auckland
City's best kept secrets, so bare with me as we take you on this wee tour and all will
be revealed - so come on, lets go!
Here I am standing in Aotea Square at the heart of Auckland City. It's a great place
to relax, grab a coffee, and take a break.
Right next to the square is the town hall, well known for musical performances, and
tucked in beside it is the new Q theatre where everything from dance to and drama musicals take
place. It's pretty much booked out all year.
Behind me is the Aotea Centre. You can catch everything from art exhibitions to bands.
Right here is where you can catch a great movie or find every sort of food you can imagine,
at a good price - which is pretty important for students!
Lets head across the road; we're passing the AUT building. One street up is the amazing new
AUT Campus and of course, this sits right next to the Auckland University Campus. From
here I can see the Auckland City Library and across the road is a new look Auckland City
Gallery.
However what is really important is what lies here in the corner of Lorne and Rutland Street.
It truly is one of Auckland's best kept secrets and it's pretty special to me - ACG Senior
College.
This one hundred year old building is the home of ACG Senior College; my old school.
As you can see, there are no playing fields; but I've just shown you many aspects of the
city and these are the playing fields of ACG Senior College. Not to mention, our amazing
Waterfront and cafes.
As you can see this is no ordinary school. It is just for Senior students and it is set
here right in the city. If you're looking for a school where the academic record is
incredibly high, then this is the school, and you don't have to be brilliant to succeed;
just independent and hardworking.
Senior College is the only college in New Zealand to offer two international qualifications;
Cambridge examinations -and if you particularly wish to study in the northern hemisphere,
the International Baccalaureate - you'll be spoiled for choice.
If you want to be treated as an adult rather than a child this is the place it happens.
If you want freedom and responsibility, then this is the college for you. If you want teachers
that are passionate about their subject and want you to succeed, then this school is worth
a look.
One of the best parts of my time here at Senior College was with my teachers; but don't just
take my word for it - this is an amazing building but it's not only that which makes this school
unique; its what happens inside that counts. Especially the people. I'm studying at Auckland
University School of Music in my Second Year and all my friends from ACG Senior College
are all over the world following their passion. And we'll all agree, it all started here in
this building. And we look forward to welcoming you to ACG Senior College.
You might see me around, I still pop back from time to time to meet up with my old teachers
and keep in touch. It's just that sort of place.
