Following restrictions on stage dramas,
the stages of Gujranwala are barren
An the artists, directors and writers
are looking at other options for earning.
Nasir Raza is one such artist
Who not only worked in more than 150 dramas
but also directed them.
But helpess because of the situation,
this artist is selling poultry meat.
NASIR RAZA: We are compelled to do this work.
I chose this line of work because
the Home Department shut down theatres.
There was a complete ban.
The theatre was closed, if we don't do this,
how will we feed our kids?
Not only Nasir Raza, but actor Imdad Najmi is also in a similar state.
Imdad also has some regrets with the administration.
IMDAD NAJMI: This is a job.
It take a lifetime to learn this.
When our time to earn came, it was closed down.
We have children.
They have a future and who will make the future?
Parents will. When parents are jobless,
there is no income, where do we go?
This theatre was built 30 years ago where famous artists
like Amanullah, Babbu Barral, Khalid Abbas Dar, Sohail Ahmad and Iftikhar Thakur
initiated their career performance.
This place of ours is at least worth Rs500 million.
In this situation, it has not even one ruppee of income.
The income tax people don't let tax go.
When tax paying is late, they put locks here
and seize the cinema, the theatre.
Besides the rues of the artists,
This is district administration's stance:
AMEEN CHAUDHRY: The theatres that the home dept has given permission to
minus songs, have no such restrictions on them.
But even those have a monitoring system.
Which have zoos or swings and explicit, vulgar content,
cannot be allowed at any cost.
If these artists, with the administration,
had worked out some code of conduct,
maybe these restrictions would not have been imposed.
Inflation, unemployment and terrorism acts
has created problems for all citizens.
By closing down these theatres, people have been deprived
of this last source of entertainment too.
