Hi everyone, this is Bidisha, and I'm a program director at Dalai Lama Fellows. Here is my ingredient list for my
recipe for building a world for all--it's a work in progress!
1: Do no harm and surface your assumptions and mental models.
2: Learn to read your own emotions as they arise in your body in high resolution
3: Learn to have courageous conversations, and find common ground. 4. Learn to read others' emotions, and to remember that, just like you, they are doing the best that
they can, and that they want to be happy.
5: Remember, as Dr King said, "Power without
love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at
its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power
correcting everything that stands against love."
6: Move away from a mindset of more, more, more, better, better, better
7: Slow down—grow the deep economy—one that's built on reciprocity and trust.
8: Embrace wonder, joy, awe, reverence, abundance, play, laughter, and land
9: Build unlikely alliances and movements where each individual can contribute to the
sense of a common purpose and believe in co-liberation. 10: Think wrong! Empathize, prototype, and
iterate 11: Broaden the horizons of compassion to
include everyone from coral reefs to future generations, and live in the long now, spanning
millennia. Combine liberally with a big pinch of love!
