Following the recent state elections in Thuringia and Saarland
there has been increased discussion in the German media over the possibility
of establishing coalitions of the SPD and the Left Party at a state, or even federal level.
There is nothing progressive in any such government constellation involving the Left Party.
It would invariably implement the demands of the financial elite at the expense of the population.
This is shown not only by the anti-social balance sheet of the former SPD-Green government
or other "left" governments in Europe.
It is above clear in Berlin where the SPD-Left Party Senate has played an exemplary role
in enforcing wage dumping and the wiping out of social gains.
Based on the lessons of Berlin anyone who describes a SPD-Left Party administration as some sort of "leftist project"
is either politically naive or a deliberate charlatan.
The Left Party is not an instrument in the hands of workers to defend their living standards.
It is an initiative set in motion by the ruling elite aimed at preventing any independent mobilisation of amongst workers.
The Socialist Equality Party has an entirely opposed position -
in order to prevent the broad population from paying the price of the crisis it is necessary to organise a movement from below.
