Hello! My name is Ruslan Popovych and I would like
to tell you a little bit about the app called Side by Side Skill Trainer.
The purpose of this application is to serve as a clinician tool in skill training environments.
One good example is teaching wheelchair users functional skills such as wheelies or surface
transfers. So let's go ahead and get to it and launch
the application. SBS Skill Trainer catalogs training sessions,
so it requires a little bit of information at startup, such as the clinician, the trainee,
and the activity that you would like to learn. Once we log in, we see a gallery of videos
previously recorded. Some of the users in the videos are experts
while others are trainees. You can quickly navigate to the video by using
the filters on the right over here. For example, I would like to look at a video
of Mark attempting to do a wheeling. Tapping on the video will open it up in playback
mode and start playing it. In the playback mode, there is a standard
set of controls as well as some advanced ones. On the bottom, you can see play and pause
button as well as frame skipping buttons. On the top, we can see a long slow motion
bar that controls the playback speed. Also, there is a draw toggle button, which
I will enable. This allows me to draw on the screen.
This is a very useful feature, because you can make highlights of the activity while
the video is paused or playing. Now that we have seen what we can do with
the videos, let's make one. In record mode, you are able to see the current
trainee and task on the bottom. You can change these anytime you start working
on a new task or with a new trainee. In the menu there is a timer, to delay the
start of the recoding, and on the left you will see buttons to switch the camera and
quickly reset the video. Now the last but not least piece of the app
is the compare mode. This is ideal mode to show a patient's progress,
or compare his video to an expert recording. You can use separate controls to manipulate
each of the videos, or sync the controls ... ... to get one set of buttons.
With these three modes of the application, you can optimize your training experience
and get closer to mastering the functional skills you need.
