Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and his signature sweater vests aren’t going
away. Santorum announced today his plans for his new nonprofit organization — Patriot
Voices.
The organization aims to unite one million followers under the conservative principles
of religion, family, freedom and opportunity.
Here’s Santorum with his official announcement on the Patriot Voices website.
“To accomplish this [goal], we’ll mobilize our grassroots troops to help elect candidates
that share our values and hold elected officials accountable for their actions all across the
country.”
Patriot Voices will promote issues Santorum emphasized throughout his campaign. MSNBC
argues the organization is nothing but a fund to assure Santorum’s name is on the ballot
come 2016.
“Rick Santorum, I think, styles himself as someone who sort of ran his first run for
president as a free run for 2016. I guess he’s seeing himself as viable and starting
this PAC is a way to extend the political viability.”
Santorum’s opponents argue his political principles are lost in today’s America.
Santorum’s campaign communications director told CNN there is an appetite for social conservatism
in the Republican party. In contrast, Jezebel argues Santorum’s political career has been
proof that “extremists can still be taken seriously”...
“The group's called Patriot Voices, because Patriot is code for God, Guns, Gays, and Gals.
The organization's goal is to amass a million busybody lame-os to elect politicians into
office that believe that birth control is bad because it gives women license to ‘do
things.’”
Patriot Voices isn’t Santorum’s only resource. The former senator is going to use his Red
White and Blue PAC to support the initiative. The super PAC that once backed his presidential
bid still has more than $300,000 to spend on issues. The founder of the Faith and Freedom
Coalition told the Christian Post Santorum’s new plans are exciting.
“Rick Santorum was one of the most important conservative, pro-family voices in the country
even before his remarkable presidential campaign. I expect Rick's new venture to be a positive
and highly effective addition to the existing infrastructure of the conservative movement.”
Santorum says he won’t announce what he might want to do politically in the future
until he clears his $2.3 million campaign debt.
