The Korean government is trying to register 'ondol'... a common type of underfloor heating
found in Korean housing... as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.
The land ministry said Sunday... that the government had formed a research group to
make headway into the commercial application of ondol around the world.
Medical research is also underway to find out more about its health effects.
Ondol was originally used by burning wood, but modern homes are now built with heating
pipes embedded in the floors.
