Hello there. In this video we'll take a look at how to create a picture in picture video in Adobe Premiere Elements 11.
We're looking at an example on the screen right now with a video that is inset on top of a larger
video that fills the entire screen. It's fairly easy to create these using two tracks and two videos.
Notice when we look at the timeline that we have a video on video track one and another video on top of it
on video track two. The one on video two is actually the inset video which is smaller so that we can see the other video behind it.
Well this is pretty easy to do. So I'm going to show you
a couple of different ways to approach this type of project. First I'm going to delete this from the timeline my
video two and then I'll recreate this so that you can see how to do it.
So I'm just going to press the delete key and take this off. So now we just have one video on video track one.
Now I need to come up to the project assets panel and place that other video back on the timeline. Notice that I am working in expert view.
So if you don't see the project assets make sure to click expert next to quick.
Now I'll come over to project assets click that.
Now I'm going to grab my video. Drag it down to video two and drag it to the left until it snaps.
Now I'll close my project assets panel.
We see that video two is sitting on top of video one. You can see the edges of video one and that video two is not
in the size or location where we want it to be for picture picture display. However, since it is selected we have it selected on the timeline
we see that there are white handles around the edge so we can simply grab one of these handles and drag to resize.
Then click on the video and reposition it to the corner in order to create our picture in picture video.
And that is one really easy way to handle something like this. It will be a static picture in
picture video. There won't be any animation or anything else but sometimes that's enough.
Now another way to resize and reposition a video other then drag and drop is through the applied effects panel.
When we click this and go to the motion area
we can also scale or reposition horizontal or vertical
up and down by using these sliders. We can rotate the video as well.
So if you like using the motion panel to get a little more precise you can certainly try that.
But sometimes it's just as easy to click on the video and drag the edges and move it around visually.
So that will give you a picture in picture display video.
So now I'm going to do this one more time using a slightly different approach. I'll select and delete
that from video two. Now I'm going to project assets
and I will drag the video back down again onto video two.
This time I'm going to use a preset.
We come to the effects area and click this. We can look for
the presets that are available to us. Now there are many effects in here but there are also
presets. When I click this menu I see that we have
presets here in the list. So I'll select this. I'm going to grab the edge and drag this up a little.
So you can see that there are quite a few presets in here.
Including drop shadows pans zooms mosaics and picture in picture effects or presets these are PIPs. A huge
collection of presets for picture in picture display. These have animation and so forth.
Let's try one 40 percent spin in right.
And we get a little animation that shows us what that looks like. Now that I've selected it I just need to drag and drop it on my video.
And it resizes it repositions it and applies that animation.
Notice that we have an animation trail on the screen.
And when I play it should spin in and drop into place.
Now I can move this around just a little bit if I don't like the motion.
I can change the path make it curved by dragging these handles.
We have curves so we can change here so you can kind of modify this a little bit.
If you want to modify it even more select it come over to the applied effects panel
go back into motion and we want to click the show hide key frame controls
and here is where that animation is. It's actually set up as keyframes.
So you. can move these around to adjust how that effect looks
and kind of modify it or customize it as you see fit.
And once you're happy with it just close it up and make sure to save your project.
So presets give you another way of applying a picture in picture
effect with animation. So there are some ways that you can apply picture in picture to your own video project.
I hope you found that information helpful. Good luck with your video editing projects and goodbye for now.
