Did you know you can label features by using a data layer's existing attributes?
Right click on the layer in the Table of Contents. Click on 'Label Features'.
The road layer has been labeled based on entries
in the data layer's Attribute table.
You can also change which data is used for labeling from the Attribute table
by right clicking on the layer, and clicking on 'Properties'.
Click on the 'Labels' tab. Beside Label Field, chose the attribute
to be used for labeling. Click 'Ok' to see the new labels.
You can also edit individual labels by converting the labels into annotations.
Right click on the data layer, and click on 'Convert Labels to Annotation'.
Under 'Store Annotation', select the 'In the map' option.
Under 'Create Annotation For', select if you would like all features converted
or only the features in the current extent. Click 'Convert'.
In an Overflow Annotation Box appears, simply close it.
Using the 'Select Elements' tool, you are now able to click on an
individual name and move, and re-size and delete it.
You can also make changes to the font from the Drawing toolbar,
since the labels are now recognized as text.
