Hi everyone. So today we're taking a look at Dungeon Keeper Mobile,
the latest free to play mobile game from Electronic Arts.
Now if you're not familiar with Dungeon Keeper where have you been?
This is probably one of the oldest of the old school
strategy games really and it has a special place
in my heart. It's one of the very first games I ever reviewed
and so I have a certain affinity for this game
and so it is a crying shame what Electronic Arts have done here.
Unfortunately they've taken everything that was great and good and
awesome about the original Dungeon Keeper and have decimated it
with an in-app purchase system. Essentially
now we have gems and gems are an additional
currency within the game along with things like stone and gold
and in essence when you're building your
dungeon it will require a certain amount of time
to complete certain builds. But don't worry
you can speed that up with some gems. Gems that will cost you real money.
Or alternatively you can mine gems but gems will take you around four
hours to mine a tiny number of gems.
Straight away you can see that there's a massive draw here from Electronic Arts
to say
give me money, give me money, give me money. It leads to a game
that unfortunately has very little to do with Dungeon Keeper.
It feels like you could take any of those rubbishy
town and city empire building games and
effectively switch out the textures, you know? If you weren't
having a Dungeon vibe then you've pretty much got a
city vibe, you know? Everything here is analogous to things we've seen
in many other crappy world building games on mobile
and I'm afraid EA really need to be taken to task for offering
a £70 in-app purchase. Yes, that's right
you can, if you'd like, spend £70 on this game
for a load of credits for virtual crap. It is
unbelievable EA would have the brass tacks to
attempt something like this when they're apparently trying not to annoy
gamers this year.
They don't want their worst company in the world award
any more. They would like someone else to take the mantle. Well, I'm afraid EA
if you carry on churning out
junk like this and trying to rip off the consumer you deserve
the worst games company and worst company in the world award
many times over. This is not Dungeon Keeper
this is an in-app purchase nightmare. Thanks for watching.
