Hi, I am Meryl.
I work in the Civil Rights department here at MCD.
What does Civil Rights mean?
It means MCD helps anyone that is Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Late-Deafened
If you have problems with rights related to hearing loss issues
doesn't matter if it's your job, your doctor, hospital or school..
We can help with complaints about people who don't provide the right services
the laws names are.. ADA- Americans with Disabilities Act,
Federal Maine Human Rights Act..
and means all services must provide info on what you need to do so you understand.
MCD's Civil Rights program does not provide legal services for people dealing with criminal issues or family/divorce issues.
We don't mind connecting you to the right kind of lawyers you need for those issues.
but again we do not do those kind of issues here at MCD.
Not only do we work with one on one situations but
we are involved with the system change, too.
Fighting the state legislature to pass new laws...
involved with many different commities trying to teach
change and improve services for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Late- Deafened people.
if you need any help..
call, email, VP, or come visit MCD
I can advocate or interpret with 2 lawyers: Amy Sneirson and Beth Gallie.
Both lawyers are very expeirenced with the ADA laws
If you need help, come on in, we'd be happy to help you!
Our work here at MCD is free to the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Late-Deafened people.
